Not My Mother's Perm
By Adriana Ermter
The hot look in 2003 for curls is all about the perm
Perms are back—and they’re nothing like your mama’s. "We are at the twilight of a new expression of hair as fashion," confirms Dan Anton, owner of Montreal’s Anton Design salon. "But introducing texture is hard because of the consumer fear factor.
While 2003 hair certainly does not resemble the perm of 1985, salons are going the extra mile to sell this service to clients., proving that they can put a 2003 spin on the ‘do. "We’ve retooled all of our perm products says Fabio Sementilli , 2003 Canadian Texture Hairstylist of the Year and owner of Salon Shampoo in Woodbridge, Ontario. "And you have to, to be current and to define what today’s perm looks like, because people want to change the structure and texture of their hair."
So is this trend on the verge of becoming a rage? "Soon enough some big star will have a perm, then everyone will want it," claims Anton. "Remember the "Friends" haircut? Curls are going to have the same impact."
